Pathways to Human Rights (BA) at Laurier

We have a variety of agreements and articulations with Ontario colleges that allow you to diversify your educational experience and complete your Human Rights (BA) degree at Laurier in less time. We encourage you to take the time to review all your options below.

Regardless of the pathway you choose, throughout your Human Rights degree you will take courses in topics such as diversity, advocacy, cross-cultural perspectives, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and more. Once you have accepted your offer, please consult Academic Advising and our Course Registration Guide to determine the specific courses you'll need to take during your time at Laurier.

2+2 Agreement: General Arts & Science from Mohawk College

Students who have successfully completed Mohawk College’s General Arts & Science (University Transfer) Diploma with a 75% average or better, a minimum of 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent) and meets the course requirements below will be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus. In addition, you will be granted 10.0 transfer credits towards the BA program. To graduate with your Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights, you will need to complete an additional 10.0 credits at Laurier.

In addition to the seven (7) required courses of the Mohawk program, students must complete the Mohawk courses listed below to be eligible for the 2+2 pathway.

• PSOL 10013: Introduction to Government in Society
• SSCI 10047: Introduction to Sociology
• A minimum of eight courses must be completed from the courses listed below:
  • INDS 2022: First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Perspectives
  • HIST 10020: History of War & Society in the 20th Century
  • INDS 10031: Impacts of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
  • PSOL 10011: Introduction to Globalization
  • PSYC 10015: Human Sexuality
  • SSCI 10080: Self and Society
  • SSCI AS105: Race and Ethnic Dynamics

AWARDING OF TRANSFER CREDITS

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

Block Transfer Agreement: College Diplomas

Students enrolling in Laurier’s Human Rights program on the Brantford campus after completing a two- or three-year diploma program may earn up to 6.0 or 7.5 transfer credits (respectively). The specific transfer credits granted will be determined based on your unique academic journey and will be outlined in a transfer credit assessment that you will receive along with your offer letter. You must also have completed a 4U English course with a final grade of 60% or higher for entry into this pathway.

Articulation: Human Services Foundations Certificate from Conestoga College

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Human Services Foundations Certificate with a 75% average or better and a minimum of 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent) will be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus. In addition, you will be granted 4.0 transfer credits towards the BA program. To graduate with your Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights, you will need to complete an additional 16.0 credits at Laurier.

AWARDING OF TRANSFER CREDITS

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

Articulation: Office Administration General Certificate from Conestoga College

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Office Administration – General Certificate with a 75% average or better and a minimum of 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent) will be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus. In addition, you will be granted 3.5 transfer credits towards the BA program. To graduate with your Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights, you will need to complete an additional 16.5 credits at Laurier.

AWARDING OF TRANSFER CREDITS

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

Articulation: Office Administration Executive Diploma from Conestoga College

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Office Administration – Executive Diploma with a 75% average or better and a minimum of 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent) will be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus. In addition, you will be granted 6.5 transfer credits towards the BA program. To graduate with your Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights, you will need to complete an additional 13.5 credits at Laurier.

AWARDING OF TRANSFER CREDITS

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

Articulation: Office Administration Legal Diploma from Conestoga College

Students who have successfully completed Conestoga College’s Office Administration – Legal Diploma with a 75% average or better and a minimum of 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent) will be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus. In addition, you will be granted 7.5 transfer credits towards the BA program. To graduate with your Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights, you will need to complete an additional 12.5 credits at Laurier.

AWARDING OF TRANSFER CREDITS

These are the transfer credits you will receive (outlined in your offer letter) if you are admitted via this pathway:

Articulation: Select Graduate Certificates from Conestoga College

Students who have completed one (1) of the identified Conestoga Ontario Graduate Certificate programs with a minimum average of 70% or better, and a previous Diploma or Advanced Diploma with a minimum average of 75% or better, and a minimum of 60% in a 4U English (or equivalent), will be eligible for admission into the Human Rights (BA) program at Laurier's Brantford campus. In addition, you will be granted 5.0 transfer credits towards the BA program, plus any additional transfer credits for the initial Diploma or Advanced Diploma in accordance with Laurier’s transfer credit policy.

Students who have completed an undergraduate degree at any point will be admitted to Post-Degree Studies, where they can choose to pursue a sequential degree.

To graduate with your Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights, you will need to complete at least 10.0 credits at Laurier to meet the residency requirement.

AWARDING OF TRANSFER CREDITS

Academic Partnership: Select Graduate Certificates from Conestoga College

In only four years, students in the Conestoga College academic partnership pathway complete an honours Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Laurier and a graduate certificate from Conestoga College.

SELECT APPROVED GRADUATE CERTIFICATE OPTIONS

You can choose to complete one of the following programs at Conestoga College to count towards this Academic Partnership. 

• Career Development Professional
• Event Management
• Human Resources Management
• Management in Community Services
• Project Management 

You'll attend Laurier in Years 1 and 2, then Conestoga College in Year 3, and then Laurier in Year 4. Conestoga’s 1-year program counts as 5.0 transfer credits toward the 20.0 credits required for the honours BA in Human Rights.

Please note: the timelime in which you attend Laurier may look different than what is listed above. Connect with your academic advisor to learn more about your optiminal registration schedule if you participate in this academic partnership. 

APPLYING TO CONESTOGA COLLEGE

To be eligible for admission to Laurier, you must have earned a minimum of 60% in a 4U English course (or equivalent). At the end of Year 1, you will declare your intent to apply for the Conestoga College academic partnership pathway and work with your academic advisor to meet the requirements outlined in the academic calendar. You must be in good standing in your program, and you must have completed a minimum of 10.0 credits, with 2.5 credits being from your Human Rights major requirements, before you start a Conestoga College program.

To enrol in courses at Conestoga College, you must obtain a Letter of Permission by submitting the online request form.
