Medieval and Medievalism Studies (BA in Combination)

Investigate the Middle Ages across the globe, exploring the development of culture and society and its impacts on the modern world. Expand this focus by gaining an understanding of how our perspectives of the Middle Ages are shaped by modern portrayals in film, television, literature, role-playing clubs, and video games. Graduate with an appreciation of history, culture, and visual arts that can serve as background for pursuits in many different career fields.

This program must be combined with another Bachelor of Arts program.

Here are just a few examples of the experiences you can add to your Medieval and Medievalism Studies program:

  • Live in the history-themed Residence Learning Community to enhance your academic and social success and register for the culminating summer travel course.
  • Study abroad for an academic term at the University of Durham in England and the University of Poitiers in France.
  • Join our Medieval Students' Society which is one of the strongest student groups on campus and organizes events such as archery outings and medieval potluck dinners.
  • If you choose to combine your Medieval and Medievalism Studies program with a program that offers co-op (like Global Studies or Political Science), you can apply for co-op at the end of your first year.

Design Your Degree

This program must be completed in combination with another Bachelor of Arts program. You can easily pair your studies with Communication Studies, English, Film Studies, Global Studies or Women and Gender Studies, among others.

In addition, you can add an option or minor that will allow you to broaden your knowledge. A few examples of popular options and minors include:

Community Service-Learning

Community Service-Learning (CSL) courses at Laurier integrate service in the community with what you are learning in your classes. Placements are approximately 10 weeks and take place on a weekly basis from the second week of classes to the final week, typically for two hours per week.

CSL placements consist of volunteering at a local community service, such as a soup kitchen or a children's treatment centre. It’s a great way to apply classroom knowledge and gain practical experience in your field of study. Build your resume, develop your network, and graduate with experience.
