Go Beyond the Classroom

Your Experiences Tell Your Story

#1 in student satisfaction - Maclean's University Rankings (2020, 2019, 2018)

Your academic life as a Golden Hawk is far more than classes, essays and exams. To make the most of your university education, you need a place to reflect on what you learn inside the classroom and connect it to meaningful experiences in other learning environments.

Experiential learning is a way for you to expand your knowledge and put it to use. Better yet, you can record these hands-on learning experiences on the Laurier Experience Record and graduate with an official record that you can share. It’s the first of its kind in Canada.

Supporting Your Personal and Academic Success

Your well-being is foundational to a meaningful university experience. From award-winning athletics and recreation programs to keep you active, to all the academic support and health and wellness services to help you thrive, we believe that developing the whole student will better able you to achieve your personal and professional goals.

Be Part of Something

Get the education and experience you need to succeed in all aspects of life. And keep community at the heart of it all.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

We offer you countless opportunities to put classroom theory into practice through fieldwork, volunteering, co‑op and more. Experiential learning opportunities are everywhere at Laurier, just waiting for you to jump in.

Community Engagement

Golden Hawks are proud to give back to our community. Laurier's Community Service-Learning courses give you hands-on experience through a project or placement with a local non-profit organization.

You can also get involved in the Community Engagement Option or in the first-year leadership program, or travel internationally on a Laurier Habitat for Humanity build.

Co-op Education

Co-op is a paid work experience program that allows you to integrate in-class learning with practical experience. Explore career options, develop skills and network with employers.

We have the largest business degree co-op program in Canada and it was the first one to be offered in Ontario. More than two-thirds of our programs are eligible for co-op.

Entrepreneurship

Be involved in developing and launching a business, social or cultural venture for academic credit. Or tackle social and environmental challenges in the Social Entrepreneurship Option.

Faculty Research

Conduct research that’s related to your program. Work with faculty to tackle local and global challenges from many different angles in our research centres and institutes.

Field Courses, Placements and Internships

Gain intensive practical experience, at home or abroad, in a workplace or community setting related to your program. Even better: your experience counts for academic credit.

Global Engagement

Whether you’re interested in studying abroad for a year, a term, or even just a course over the summer, there are many ways you can see the world while completing your degree.

You can also enhance your international and intercultural skills right at home.

Part-Time Jobs

Gain practical experience right on campus. Earn money and skills as you work in a department on campus, conduct research in a lab with faculty or be an instructional assistant.

Program Clubs and Associations

Get to know your classmates and professors in a relaxed setting outside of the classroom. Host events, engage in debates, attend conferences and more.

Residence

Live in a themed residence environment that expands on concepts learned in class. Network with peers, faculty and staff through programs and excursions held both in your residence and off campus.

Student Clubs and Associations

Student-led activities are the heart of Laurier. Get involved in the Students’ Union or join a campus club.

Laurier has one of Canada’s most active student unions with more than 250 student-led clubs and associations and 5,000 members. The opportunities to find your fit are endless.

Sustainability

From academics and research to alternative transportation and waste reduction, Laurier's Sustainability Office gives you many opportunities to get involved with environmental awareness and action on campus – and beyond.
