Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

My academic career includes a Bachelor of Music from University of Manitoba, Master of Music from the University of British Columbia and a Doctor of Music Arts from the University of Michigan.
I have toured extensively as a pianist and have released 3 CDs of improvisational jazz and have received commissions from performers and ensembles of all types, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Early in my career, I earned notoriety in Canada as co-founder with Bramwell Tovey of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s New Music Festival and was recently the artistic director of NUMUS concerts in Kitchener-Waterloo.
In 2003, my full length ballet Beauty and The Beast premiered in England with the Birmingham Royal Ballet and has toured the United Kingdom and Asia several times with over 125 performances.
My current project is the Button Factory Band: www.buttonfactoryband.com
Currently composing my 3rd Piano Concerto for a performance in March 2016.
In 1998, I was named University Research Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, the first time that honour had been given to a creative artist.
The Faculty of Music at Laurier is the warmest and friendliest environment for learning and music-making that I've ever encountered. We're all dedicated to maintaining and protecting this ideal learning environment: the concerts, the seminars and masterclasses, the studios, ensembles, performance facilities, practice facilities, and of course, the stimulating lectures and tutorial teaching by a wonderfully diverse collection of music professionals. It's an ideal environment for creative musicians and progressive thinkers.
