Opera (Diploma)

If you've completed an undergraduate degree or diploma in music and want to grow your creative and performing skills as a singer-actor, Laurier's Diploma in Opera is a perfect fit.

This one-year (two-term) program offers focused instruction in voice and operatic stagecraft in a highly collaborative environment where you learn about making opera from the ground up.

Program Details

You'll work with the renowned faculty and instructors in our Faculty of Music who will help you build and grow foundational performance and creative skills towards the portfolio careers of the future.

In addition to improving your singing, you'll learn how to deliver a practical audition, create a killer publicity package, and work with prominent stage directors and other clinicians in movement, acting, stagecraft, publicity and makeup.

For more than 50 years, Laurier's diploma in Opera has enjoyed a fine reputation as a training ground for advanced pre-professional Opera and music theatre singers, directors and repetiteurs.

Our many alums who have gone on to achieve great success in music include:

  • Sarah Dufresne, recent winner of the 2022 Montreal International Competition and one of this year's CBC 30-under-30;
  • Midori Marsh, winner of the 2019 Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Competition;
