The Laurier Hub for Community Solutions is pleased to be a partner in presenting the Laurier-Brantford International Film Series, a joint initiative with Wilfrid Laurier University and the City of Brantford.
The International Film Series is free to attend. All are welcome, no ticket required. Refreshments provided!
The International Film Series aims to provide an opportunity to share, reflect and celebrate different cultures, languages and cinematic art. Before each screening, we have also invited speakers to come and share insights and perspectives on the film. We hope this will help to spark additional understanding and appreciation for the film and its culture.
Films run on Thursdays. Doors at 6:30 p.m., film at 7 p.m.

Dec. 4: Lo Capitano (Belgium, Italy, France)
Io Capitano is the epic story of a teenage boy who, together with his cousin, decides to leave Dakar in Senegal and make his way to Europe. A harrowing adventure through the dangers of the desert and the sea, the ambiguities and contradictions of human beings, in which dreams, hopes and ambitions turn into a struggle for survival, where there is no space for piety.
Jan. 14: The Zone of Interest (Germany/Poland)
In a German-occupied Poland, Hedwig struggles to keep an organized life for her 5 kids while her husband, SS officer and Auschwitz commander Rudolf Hoess, oversees the testing and installation of new torture devices. When evil turns ordinary, and apathy comes easy, what sets him apart from the beasts?
Feb. 4: Le Passe (France/Iran)
Ahmad, an Iranian man, returns to Paris after four years to finalize his divorce. He finds his ex-wife involved with Samir, an Arab man whose wife is in a coma. Tension grows as the older daughter blames her mother for the coma, and everything unravels when the girl reveals a troubling secret of her own.

Hirayama, a toilet cleaner from Tokyo, content with his simple lifestyle, reveals more of his past through unexpected encounters.
Mar. 4: Capernaum (Lebanon)
A Lebanese boy, Zain, sues his parents for giving him life. The film follows his escape from neglect, his survival on the streets, and his bond with an Ethiopian worker, Rahil, whose baby he cares for. After committing a violent crime and landing in jail, Zain ultimately seeks justice in court.
Mar. 18: Past Lives (South Korea)
Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are torn apart after Nora's family emigrates from South Korea. Twenty years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny.
Apr. 1: Amelie (France)
As an adult working as a waitress in Paris, Amelie returns a lost treasure to a former tenant and, inspired by his joy, devotes herself to helping those around her. But as she becomes absorbed in others’ lives, she neglects her own longing for love. Amélie finally decides to take charge of her life and pursue the romance she has always imagined.
