Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Hello future Golden Hawks!

It is such a pleasure to be able to host you at Laurier and to share with you some of my thoughts and experiences. I’m sure we've all gone through the same feelings prior to picking a university. Scrolling through university websites to see what differentiates one school from another; not knowing what I wanted to specialize in or what I wanted to do in the future; worried about making the right choices when picking a school and program. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to be but when I stepped onto Laurier’s campus, I knew I found my home away from home. My name is Neekey Totonchian and I am going into my second year in the Communication Studies program.

Fast forward to completing first year at Laurier, I know I have made the best decision of my life. Throughout first year, I was exposed to the multitude of opportunities Laurier has to offer. In my last year of high school, I was extremely involved and wanted to continue that when I began my journey at Laurier. My first step to getting involved was joining House Council for University Place Residence. I was a community representative; had the opportunity to inform the people within my residence of the events that took place over the year. I continued to get involved by joining the Student Alumni Association. By joining that club, I was able to raise awareness on the impact of donors at Laurier. Lastly, I joined a Volleyball intramural team. I really enjoyed being able to get involved in so many different activities and to help advance so many great causes. What was perhaps most rewarding was that each of the initiatives gave me the opportunity to make so many new friends.

Laurier’s spirit and community-feeling is not only unique but extremely genuine. Everyone on campus looks out for one another in some way or another. Laurier has so many amazing qualities including activities and programs which cater to a diverse range of interests, as well as a great sense of community and support. I am so grateful I picked Laurier as my university and I look forward to seeing you on campus!
