Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Fourth-Year Religion & Culture Studies

Hi future Golden Hawks!

My name is Lizzy and I am in my fourth year of Religion and Culture Studies. This year I have the absolute pleasure of getting to do my dream job, which is sharing my infinite love for Laurier with all of you!

For any high school student, the transition from post-secondary to university is super overwhelming, especially being an individual who has struggled academically. However, when I attended the Ontario Universities' Fair (OUF) in my grade 12 year, Laurier was the only school that was eager to assist me in getting the proper academic support that I was going to need. After talking to Laurier faculty, the thought of going to University didn’t seem so intimidating anymore, which was an indication that Laurier was going to be the place I called home.

I began first year as a Psychology student, but took advantage of what is called “exploratory first year," where I had the flexibility of trying a variety of different Arts courses and having the option to chance majors after my first year. By my third year, I had finally decided what I was interested in and where my academic strengths were, thanks to the flexibility of my course selection each year. In addition to academics, I was instantly attracted to the unique volunteer culture at Laurier. In the past three years I have been involved in many different aspects of the Laurier community such as participating in the Rec Dance Program, being a member of several Dodgeball Intramural teams, working on the Athletics and Recreation marketing team, volunteering as a campaign member of the Students’ Union Elections, and being a General Volunteer Manager for the 5 Days for the Homeless Campaign. I have also volunteered as an Orientation week Icebreaker for the past three years, which is where I truly discovered how much I love sharing my passion for Laurier with both incoming and current students.

While the balance between school, extracurriculars, jobs, and social life can be overwhelming, Laurier has incredible support services that are always more than willing to ensure each students excels. Since my first day at Laurier, my expectations of this University have only been exceeded. The access to support I have been provided with has helped aid me in becoming the successful, motivated student that I am today and is just one example of what the amazing Laurier community has to offer.

Laurier provides endless opportunities for you to be the best version of yourself, which is why I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. I am so excited for you to join the Golden Hawk family, and for you to experience the best years of your life!
