Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Campus Ambassador
Third-Year Archaeology and Heritage Studies
St. Catharines, ON

Hello future Golden Hawks, my name is Heather and I am currently in my third year of Archaeology and Heritage Studies with an Option in Geomatics.

I am originally from St. Catharines, Ontario, but now I call Laurier my home. I was first intrigued by Laurier because of the amazing archaeology program that is offered. After coming here for a tour and seeing the campus, I knew this was the right school for me. I came from a small high school and wanted to maintain the close-knit community feeling while in another city.

Being in a small program, with extremely small class sizes, has been a great asset towards my education. All of the professors knew me by name after my first year, and have made me feel welcome to the community. They all have diverse research backgrounds, allowing me to explore different aspects in my field of study that I did not know existed. There are opportunities to volunteer in different types of archaeology labs, and attend field schools abroad.

There are so many opportunities to get involved at Laurier. I have met many lifelong friends by being part of extracurricular activities. It is easy to get involved no matter what your interests are. We even have a club dedicated to grilling meat. In my first year I was in my residence’s House Council and Archaeology Society.

Good luck on your university decision-making, I hope to see you around campus!
