Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Currently, you’ll find me teaching private music instruction in ‘ukulele and piano, ‘ukulele group classes, the Royal City Ukulele Ensemble program, and serving as Founder and Director of the Royal City Uke Fest in Guelph, Ontario. I’ve had the pleasure of travelling to ‘ukulele festivals around the world to teach and perform, including events in Finland, Scotland, and throughout the US and Canada. Additionally, I teach a unique First Year Seminar course at the University of Guelph entitled The Mighty ‘Ukulele: finding its place in education, medicine, culture and community.
A Level 3 James Hill Ukulele Initiative teacher (the highest level of this teacher training program), and as Director of Engagement for James Hill’s Uketropolis.com learning community, I take particular interest in pedagogy, process, and facilitation through the lens of the ‘ukulele and how that translates throughout the lifespan. In my research, I’ve explored aspects of well-being, including vulnerability and courage, as well as a sense of belonging and connection that can emerge in music learning environments. Additionally, I have looked at these and other aspects of music instruction in online spaces.
Following Grade Ten Conservatory certification (piano) I completed my undergraduate degree in music (piano) and concurrent diploma in arts/non-profit management, and more recently received a Masters in Community Music at Wilfrid Laurier University. I have also previously taught as a certified Kindermusik educator. Instrumental studies over the years have included piano, flute, bassoon, oboe, voice, and ‘ukulele.
Passionate about the role that music can play in our lives, I encourage everyone to learn and make music, regardless of their age or ability. I look forward to meeting new students and exploring what we can achieve through music in our classrooms and our communities.
