Remembrance Day ceremonies at Laurier

Print | PDFA number of Remembrance Day events are being held Monday, Nov. 11 on and around Wilfrid Laurier University’s Waterloo and Brantford campuses, Kitchener location and Toronto office. All members of the Laurier community are invited to attend.
Laurier’s Waterloo Campus
The Laurier History Students’ Association will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11 in the Concourse. The ceremony will begin at 10:40 a.m. and will include a reading of In Flanders Fields in English and French, remarks from Associate Professor Roger Sarty, a live performance of The Last Post by a Laurier music student followed by a moment of silence and the Reveille.
The Bookstore, the Hub and Starbucks will close for the ceremony.
Martin Luther University College’s Something Sacred observance on Nov. 11 features the presentation of three musical pieces, including a Second World War composition from Japan, titled Voices from the Sea. The composition is based upon the letters of kamikaze pilots. Gerard Yun, adjunct faculty member at Luther and assistant professor in Laurier’s Community Music program, will lead the observance. The observance takes place in the Keffer Memorial Chapel from 12:30 to 12:50 p.m.
Community Ceremonies: Brantford, Waterloo, Kitchener and Toronto
The City of Brantford’s Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held on Nov. 11 at the cenotaph, located at the corner of Brant Avenue and Dalhousie Street. The parade will form at Harmony Square at 10:20 a.m. before marching to the cenotaph. The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum will conduct a fly-over during the service.

On Nov. 11 in Waterloo, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 530 will host the annual Remembrance Day parade and ceremony. The parade will form at Regina Street and Bridgeport Road at 10:15 a.m. and will arrive at the cenotaph near Regina Street and Laurel Trail at 10:30 a.m. for a ceremony.
On Nov. 11 in Kitchener, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 will host the annual Remembrance Day parade and ceremony. The parade begins at 10:15 a.m. on Ontario Street between Duke and King. The ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m. at the Kitchener cenotaph.
On Nov. 11 in Toronto, a ceremony will be held at the Old City Hall Cenotaph, located at 60 Queen St. W., at 10:45 a.m. Additional ceremonies will take place at civic centres across Toronto, as well as at Fort York and the Meridian Centre for the Arts.
