For Immediate Release
Brantford – High school and post-secondary students will tackle projects to create a more sustainable future during Prepr’s United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals Challenge, a three-day innovation workshop taking place at Wilfrid Laurier University's Brantford campus from Feb. 1 to 3.
Prepr, a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring the intersection of innovation and education, created the workshop in partnership with Laurier’s User Experience Design program, which provides students the skills to create something new in the world by combining creativity, strategic design thinking, user research and social awareness.
“Laurier’s User Experience Design program combines creative design thinking, applied learning and ethical innovation,” said Abby Goodrum, professor and User Experience Design program coordinator. “Partnering with Prepr for this UN Sustainable Development Goals Challenge provides the unique opportunity to showcase how we can design a better world.”
The United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals provide a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. The goals include the elimination of poverty and hunger, access to quality education, increased gender equality and action to address climate change.
Prepr hosts its United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Challenge in an effort to equip individuals with the knowledge and motivation to take action toward the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
During the three-day workshop, students will examine potential solutions to global problems using critical thinking skills and learn how to showcase their ideas. Participants will receive a Prepr challenge kit, a certificate of completion and the chance to win a paid summer internship with Prepr.
Tickets for the workshop, taking place at Market Darling Centre, Room 111, 67 Darling St. in Brantford, cost $29.99 plus a $2.74 service fee for high school, university and college students or $99.99 plus a $7.72 service fee for educators. Tickets are available until Jan. 31. For more information or to register, visit their eventbrite.com page. To learn more about Prepr, visit prepr.org.
