Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

You know what they say about all work and no play. We offer state-of-the-art facilities where students can take fitness classes, participate in intramural sports or compete in varsity athletics.

Whether you’re a casual gym user, a high-performance varsity athlete, an intramural superstar or you just want to cheer the purple and gold to victory, always remember that #WeAreHAWKS.

Fitness and Recreation Facilities

The cost to access campus fitness centres is included in your tuition, so don't just sit there. Climb a rock wall. Take a dance class. Give yoga a shot. If you’ve got the energy, we’ve got a program for you.

Waterloo Campus Athletic Complex (AC)

  • weights and cardio equipment
  • Olympic-length pool
  • rock-climbing wall
  • squash courts
  • triple gym
  • four dance and fitness studios

Outside, Alumni Field offers a full-sized, FIFA-certified, artificial surface for both intramurals and club teams. University Stadium is home to Golden Hawk football, soccer, rugby and lacrosse. If you’re not on the field, find a spot in the bleachers and show your Golden Hawk spirit.

Laurier Brantford YMCA

  • free weights, circuit training machines and cardio equipment
  • varsity double gym and recreational single gym
  • 25 m swimming pool

  • 24-hour student lounge and study space

Milton Campus Velodrome

Milton students have access to the recreational facilities at the Mattamy Cycling Centre (Velodrome), a new state-of-the-art facility that has workout spaces, yoga and spin classes, basketball and volleyball courses, and world-class indoor cycling events.

Intramurals

Every year, half our student body participates in our award-winning intramural program. Whether you want to lace up your sneakers for dodgeball, sharpen your skates for ice hockey, or don a swimsuit for inner tube water polo in an Olympic-size swimming pool, there is an intramural sport for everyone.

Club Sports

Looking for a unique sporting experience? Check out our club sports, run by students for students. With more than 20 different clubs available, you can participate in a wide variety of competitive and recreational sports and activities, including men’s lacrosse, karate, ball hockey, equestrian and dragon boat racing.

Varsity Sports

Cheer on our Golden Hawks as they compete in 13 different sports in the Ontario University Athletics conference – our varsity teams have won four national and 21 provincial championships in the last 10 years. Many of our varsity teams are based in Waterloo, but in addition to two varsity teams, Laurier's Brantford campus also has “extramurals” – tournament-based competitive sports – where the Golden Hawks compete in five sports against other colleges and universities across Ontario.
