Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Campus Ambassador
Fourth-Year Business Administration
Kingston, Ontario

My name is Aidan Stride, and I'm in my fourth year of the Business Administration program. I'm passionate about entrepreneurship and have used my time at Laurier to explore this interest through clubs and co-op jobs.

Just four years ago, I was in the same position that many of you are in now: overwhelmed with numerous decisions ahead, but excited to be starting a new chapter in my life. Born and raised in Kingston, I didn't know if I wanted to stay at home or go far away. I attended countless university presentations and read up on all my options online, but that just made me even more uncertain.

I decided to take a Laurier campus tour and it was the best decision I could have made. The campus was full of energy and had a tight-knit community feel that was so welcoming, and that's when I knew Laurier was the school for me. Shortly after, I accepted my offer and I haven't looked back!

From the moment I arrived at Laurier, the array of programs and activities available to students blew me away. I quickly learned that becoming involved at Laurier is a great way to experience the close-knit community feel that Laurier is famous for. In just my first year, I was an executive on the First Year Project, a captain for a Winter Carnival team and I played on numerous intramural teams. Since then, I've founded the Laurier Billiards Society, been the vice-president of Startup Laurier and worked as a teaching assistant for first-year business classes. These experiences have allowed me to meet so many new friends and become comfortable in my home away from home.

Apart from Laurier’s awesome community, I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed my courses and co-op experiences in the business program as they have allowed me to explore my passion for technology and innovation. The first three years of the program covers the fundamentals of business and in fourth year you get to specialize; I’ve chosen to specialize in entrepreneurship. I’ve also had the opportunity to learn more about entrepreneurship through my three co-op terms. For my first and second terms I worked in marketing and sales at startups, and for my third and final term in the fall I’m taking an entrepreneurship term and working on my own venture!

Laurier is an incredible university that has so much to offer. I've never once regretted my decision to become a Golden Hawk and I know that you won't either!
